Think I’m Turning Japanese….

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

Rice_Field_Art_01With Halloween over and the little Witches and Wizards back at school, The Kitchen have something special in store for the grown-ups, a Master Class in Japanese Vegetarian Cooking.

Here at PrettyGreen, we’re a bunch of self-confessed carnivores, except Lisa who won’t even wear leather shoes (she was particularly concerned about leather pant wearing at the PRCA Awards), but after a summer of Meat Free Mondays campaigning to cut out meat one day of the week to help combat Global Warming we have to admit there is more to being veggie than meets the eye – there’s surely more to meal times than steak and chips? We’ve just found ourselves lacking the know-how to make inspired vegetarian meals.

So this Monday we’re marching down to The Kitchen’s Specialist Master Class in Japanese Vegetarian Cooking to expand our limited palettes and learn how to make creative and colourful meals without meat -Lisa, is only too eager to be inspired by Master Class host Shirley Booth while the rest of us can’t wait to see how to create a fabulous vegetarian feast, and save the planet.

Shirley’s not only knows a thing or two about vegetarian she’s also a leading authority on Japanese food, and author of the award-winning ‘Food of Japan’, sounds perfect.

It’s Getting Creepy @ The Kitchen

It’s half-term this week down at The Kitchen so there are lots of different sessions for children (Finger Food Fun, Bread Making, Wraps, Chocolate Heaven, Mini Meals, Food Jewellery, Pasta Making, Halloween Carving).

We reckon it’s probably the only place in London where you can carve pumpkins with a Michelin Star Chef.

We’re going to have our own Carving session on Thursday as part of our Company night out, for being shortlisted for the PR Week Awards.

That Was The Amazing Week That Was

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

What an amazing week, we’re still slightly spinning after it. We’re not sure what the highlight was.

  1. Being stood on the bank of the Thames at 2.55am Monday morning watching Robbie Maddison do a no-handed backflip over an open Tower Bridge with Red Bull
  2. Launching Macmillan’s World Biggest Coffee morning on Primrose Hill with a couple of hundred amazing people, including Jack Tweed (who is a really lovely bloke), and Neil Fox (who you already know is a really lovely bloke)
  3. Trying to keep 300 wooden boards on the floor, as a storm tries to decapitate young mothers and babies as walked through Primrose Hill
  4. Meeting the family legend Lynda Bellingham and taking her to The Kitchen, so she could be taught how to make Victoria sponge cake with Thierry.
  5. Presenting part 2 of our Trident campaign and getting sign-off
  6. Doing two presentations for our Cadbury 2012 campaign and getting green lights all the way
  7. Going to Spain for two nights of crazyness for X-Fighters. They know how to party.
  8. Getting sign-off for a great party for Red Bull Cola (invites on the way)
  9. Having Faye back in the office after having a baby
  10. We just needed another one to make it 10

We were also celebrating two birthday’s, a departure, and Coco’s first piece of coverage, but when it came to actually hitting the town to celebrate, this where the wheels fell off. Not because of excess and craziness, but because we’ve be struck down by that damn pig flu. At first we thought it was amusing but as the week progressed and people were falling like flies, it seemed less amusing, especially when one of team was rushed into hospital with major concerns about her lungs (seems to be on the mend now). So basically we canned our night, and have re-scheduled when everyone can hold a mike properly and sing their lungs out, without them actually coming out.

The big debate we had in the office, was whether or not there was anything that we’d ever given pigs. Man flu pandemic, just doesn’t seem likely to kill many pigs.

We were also sent this old clip about helping girls, which we hadn’t seen before and loved it so much, we’ve thought we’d share it (again).

Loving Life?

valentines roses

Thank you

Valentines Day is a big celebration for the Agency, as it was actually the day when a business marriage ended that became the catalyst for Pretty Green. Like all relationships when they end they have a tendency to get quite heated and if you’re not careful it’s always easy to focus too much on the negative’s. Therefore we’d like to say thank you with flowers, we wouldn’t have happened without you, and we wouldn’t have found the new loves of our life.

Valentines Day (weekend) is also one of those days where you think about loved ones around you and what it would be like if they weren’t around. Unless you’re totally inhuman you can’t help think about what Jade Gooding’s going through, and about the reality of what she’s facing up to, with her young children.

It’s going to interesting to see how Mr Clifford goes about handling the media frenzy for access to her final few months and whether the media respect her privacy (regardless of how much she sells some of it to a few media partners) . We may see a few new firsts for access TV in her dying hours, and lots of debates about the rights and wrongs. I suppose if it helps more people think about both the social impact of cancer and it helps secure the financial security of her family then maybe it’s not a bad thing.

Prevention Vs Cure, always a strong debate in Govt circles, and Strings spent Friday discussing the impact of Speeding with Gov’t officials. Now if truth be told he didn’t actually have a choice as to whether or not he was going to attend.

The MCCA Award nominations were announced last week and it’s interesting to see who’s doing what, and where the people are who you thought were going to do well following last years successes aren’t featured. Hopefully we’ll be in a position to throw our hat into the ring next year.

We had a great fun this week with The Kitchen, Sam Mann from Capital radio came down to create a Valentines meal for Lucio  and ITV London Tonight did a feature on The Kitchen around credit crunch London. Not bad considering it was the same week that Jamie Oliver launched Recipease.

Change is Good

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

The World’s changing, hopefully for the better (we’ll have to wait and see), and through every disaster and turmoil they’ll always be a glimmer of hope and some feel good stories that you hear or read.

Every Client and Agency we know is restructuring, looking for efficiencies and hoping that they can ride out the storm. What we’re seeing though is a real resilient spirit emerging and people are seeing that there are still opportunities to do great work, and for that they new Agencies.

It was great to read last week in Campaign of Iris’ continued expansion and growth. We can’t think of another Agency that’s started BTL, became Integrated, and remained independent and continued to grow at this phenomenal rate (apparently over 500 strong now). They’re probably the most successful Agency that’s launched in the past few years.

We’ve got different ambitions and objectives, but we’ve got respect for their success and continued ambitions during difficult times and it shows that great Agencies can still be built from scratch (and believe it or not we actually quite liked it when they parked their recruitment van outside Agencies to try and tempt staff to join the competition, it shows that you’re an Agency that they respect as they want your team)

Last week Jamie Oliver announced his expansion into the meal creation business with his new Recipease venture. Given that his team have been coming down to The Kitchen in Parsons Green to find out what we’ve been doing since we opened in July, it was no surprise when he finally announced it. From our perspective anyone, or anything that gets people creating more everyday meals, is a good thing as far as we’re concerned.

And today sees a new kid on the block at the White House, and that’s got to be a good thing. He’s probably quite nervous and not just about people putting superglue on his keyboard, trying to remember everyone’s name, and whether they want sugar in their T, more worrying has got to be his trillion dollar deficit (that’s 11 0’s), overseas conflicts and economy going through the toilet.

But as we said, change is good.
