PRCA Awards Top Trumps Game

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

tt1Whenever you’re shortlisted for an Award everyone always asks the inevitable “so what are your chances”.

Well it’s always difficult to turn it into an inexact science and it’s always Head vs Heart and all that, but naturally we’ve been weighing up our chances in the PRCA Awards.

We’re up against Threepipe, in Small Agency of the Year Category. Not bad, 50:50 chance at 1st glance, but if we were playing  Top Trumps, it looks like PrettyGreen are a Ford Mondeo and Threepipe are a brand spanking new Bugatti Veyron (that’s $1.8m 0-60 before you blink versus £50 and free breakdown recovery)

Here’s actually how it throws down on paper……..

That said, it’s not about the size of the roar in the car, it’s the size of the car in the dog (or something like that). Anyway, we know we’ve had a blinder of a year as have threepipe. Last November there were 3 of us, and we had just been awarded the total Comms business for Red Bull. A year on here we are, we haven’t lost a PR pitch,  work with amazing Clients and been part of the team nailing some brilliant projects. Our Top Trumps (in no particular order) being:-

  1. Helping Robbie Maddison backflip Tower Bridge with Red Bull
  2. Powering Up Battersea Power Station for Red Bull X-fighters
  3. Strutting our stuff on Red Bull Fashion Factory during LFW
  4. Unwrapping 100 single ladies and playing a giant game of musical chairs all across London for Trident and Beyonce
  5. Getting a skateboarding chicken doing tricks with  Nando’s X-perimental skatejam
  6. Doing a Wrappers Delight for Nando’s
  7. Launching The Kitchen and the Valentines special on London Tonight
  8. Working with Fallon and PHD for the last year on Cadbury 2012
  9. Creating a new spirits brand with Sven from Metropolitan Spirits
  10. Making people Feel Good with Macmillan and the Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning

Strings was actually one of the PRCA judges (although he wasn’t allowed to vote for PrettyGreen but tried, numerous times) and we know we’re up against the best in the industry but given how early we our in our life-stage we’re really chuffed to be shortlisted against threepipe.  So we’ll be raising a glass or two to everyone nominated, every winner and we’ll be smoking 3 big cigars at the back of the room – Good luck to Jim, Eddie and the rest of the team.

So we might currently look like we’re driving a Mondeo, but really we’re driving something far better  – Our own rock and roll tour bus! And it’s exciting to be at the beginning of our journey. It sometimes feels like we’re on the edge of a cliff like the Italian Job and other times as though we’ve got the Osbourne’s on-board, but it’s fun and there’s plenty more seats.

SK8J London507

This weekend, the Pretty Greeners were at the last stop of the Nando’s Xperimental Skate Jam at London’s BaySixty6. After the success of Leeds and Leicester last weekend in which over 500 kids turned up to learn how to skateboard and meet some of the UK’s top Pros, by 10 o’clock the streets of West London were lined with the skateboarding yoof ready to tear it up.

The BBC’s Mark Bright was at BaySixty6 the night before to do a special feature on the London News and our resident skateboarder Hamo took this opportunity to perform a trick in front of weather-girl Wendy Hurrell (and the whole of TV-watching London!) As you can see from the video, this turned out to be the weather’s biggest blunder since Michael Fish’s infamous 1987 broadcast….

Click on “Hamish it wasn’t me I wasn’t wearing that coloured top” (click again on the still, it’s right at the end when the Beeb do their weather round up from Nando’s Skate Jam, he’s the one under the weather map crawling on his hands and knees).

The event itself was a huge success and with hundreds of kids at the event and DJ Example pumping out the tunes, the atmosphere was absolutely electric. The Nando’s Peri-Peri BBQ chicken went down a storm as kids needed refueling for the afternoon of competitions, and we needed refueling to keep our energy levels on par with the youngsters – we’re not as young as we used to be!

To top off a high-energy day, Nando’s carried out the legendary throw-out from the half-pipe giving away limited-edition skateboard decks and t-shirts to ensure everyone went home with a smile whether they can kick-flip or not… we hadn’t quite mastered it, so we’re already signed up for next year!

Smarter Than The Average Pigeon

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

01-PigeonSo the big debate this week has been around whether or not you can judge a book by its cover, well actually it was an animal by its face, well actually it was whether or not if an animal looks a bit stupid, it actually is (ie) a pigeon Vs a squirrel. Obviously one looks somewhat smarter than the other, devising tricks and techniques to unlock the ever illusive nut, the other pooing on its feet, so much they dissolve.

But then we got onto the debate that ravens are apparently really smart, but they do look quite devious. Needless to say the smiling dolphin made an appearance, and the debate moved onto whether a happy animal was more intelligent than a sad looking one like a sloth.

Anyway, aside from lots of debates around animals, the main other topic was about what to wear, especially with Fashion Week looming:-

  • At Red Bull Penthouse Jam at the Sanctuary, Claire wasn’t sure what to wear in the hot tub (a few band members just went naked)
  • Nick went to Porto for Red Bull Air Race, and we know he didn’t wear any sun cream as he came back looking like he’d been to a tomato festival
  • Mike was at Bestival and he wanted to know if it was OK to wear sun glasses all day (3 days was a bit much)
  • Hamish and crew are off to Skate Jam for Nando’s and wanted to know what the kids of today were wearing on a skate park (Nick didn’t know whether he could wear pads and crash helmet as a 6ft 5 skating virgin)
  • Red Bull’s Fashion Factory, launches on Saturday with PPQ, Vivienne Westwood etc etc. and there’s only 2 shopping days to go. Would Net-a-Porter or ASOS deliver in time and what should be bought.

We’ve also been cracking on with a new Client we’ve just won, which is really exciting. We’ll announce more a little later.

We’re also celebrating a few other things, Mandy’s got promoted, we’ve just hired a great new guy (from a Client. Technically we didn’t poach him, he approached us, and he did have 2 other job offers on the table before we snapped him up), Em’s sisters getting married, Claire’s found a new house, Lisa’s finally managed to find the office, before she jets off to LA again, Cadbury sent us a huge box of chocolate and Lex is 40!

Cheers.

And finally we’re looking for a smart digital person. Either a publicist background or a Digital strategy background. If you know anyone (AD and above), let us know. If we take them on we’ll send you £1000. Obviously pigeon’s need not apply.

Skateboarding Barci from Nando’s

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Sometimes there are projects that you work on that end up a little surreal, and this definitely falls into that category. A lot of fun filming round London, amazing to watch everyone’s reaction.

Free Nando’s Chicken Cheque for the 1st person who can guess correctly who Barci is?
