Dough – Extra Fruit Topping Sir

manueluribeworldfatestmanSo, Dominoes Pizza and Sky have been reprimanded by Ofcom for their broadcast sponsorship of the Simpsons? Well, well, well. When this story landed in Monday’s newspapers, it was almost as amusing as the show itself.

Now, with British children looking more and more weeble-like each year, it is inevitable that the Dominoes / Simpsons alliance would be questioned. For a number of years now, there has been great concern at fast-food adverts being indiscriminately muddled between children’s television programmes and here we all are, welcoming this dysfunctional American family into our living rooms at the same time every evening, with pizza adverts in tow.

But, and this is a big fact but, what must be remembered is the context of the sponsorship. Whilst concerns are raised about the pizzas our children are potentially salivating over in the advert buffers, are we forgetting about the more pressing issues? Perhaps we fail to recognise that our kids are also being taught how make a deep fried bacon sandwich using blocks of butter as bread by a morbidly obese man who has had no less that 3 triple heart by-passes in his 40 years!?

Or are we perhaps overlooking the fact that this father-figure, Homer J. Simpson, spends his free-time (and most of his working-day) vegetating in his Y-fronts drinking endless amounts of Duff Beer until he is well and truly sozzled? Either way, in comparison, the cheese and tomato toppings on Dominoes pizza become somewhat less threatening and start to resemble a good source of calcium and vitamin C… perhaps.

This ludicrous ruling against Dominoes and Sky is marketing-correctness gone mad. Ofcom need to realise that if they do find themselves watching a programme about a lazy, American, blue-collar, working-class family who like to wolf their dinners down in front of the TV with minimal conversation, they can’t expect to be targeted for the Government’s Change4Life campaign.

Right, we’re all off to buy a pizza, The Simpsons starts in 5 minutes…

This is why we love working with Red Bull:

New Year Wiings

Ask yourself why do Robbie or Rhys want to do this, just because they can?

Chicks Away

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Strings spent the weekend working with the Red Bull crew at the amazing London Red Bull Air Race, but to be honest felt quite guilty (if truth be told) as he didn’t actually do anything as it all ran so smoothly and there were no crises to get stuck into. But once again he was blown away by the absolutely stunning spectacle that is the unique F1 of the skies. The skill of the pilots flying so close to the river, the thrill of thinking they’re going to crash on every run, and the scale of the logistics involved. He’s also amazed that his father-in-law is the spitting image of Peter Besenyei, who came fourth (see We’re Loving).

Whilst Emma decided to add a bit of colour (namely pink) into our Monday. Pretty Green met up with the lovely Georgie and Cat from SuperChicks. SuperChicks is a great (no boys!) Online and park training club, that enables exercise to be a lot more fun and social than the lonely treadmill. Experienced SuperChick trainers take group sessions in parks all over London with fat burning regimes that will have you looking like Elle Macpherson in no time. Emma knows, she doned her trainers and did one and hasn’t stopped harping on about it since…she was especially happy to discover that she had lost the equivalent of 3 large red wines and a packet of crisps for her pain…line them up barman.

It’s looking pretty

If you are sat reading this, then hopefully you have already heard about the exciting launch of our new brand communications agency Pretty Green (or were you actually trying to download the Paul Weller song and are now slightly confused?) Either way, hello. It has been a roller-coaster couple of months, but Pretty Green officially opened its doors for business on 4 July and we are all very excited.

We have been busy bees over the last couple of weeks with some really exciting briefs for some fantastic brands such as Red Bull and The Kitchen (basically like having a mini Michelin Star Chef in your apron pocket) and have been doing a number of other top secret projects we’re not allowed to talk about and talking to lots of other interesting people every day about some really inspiring projects (watch this space)…we like our jobs.
