But is it art..?

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Here at PG we like to think we are all open minded and can respect creativity in many forms, however, a recent discussion on the ‘smiley’ piercing Alex is debating having threw up several, urm, eye opening ways that people are expressing themselves theses days.

2

How far would you go to be different? In a culture where tattoos and piercings are the norm, the question is raised as to what is next…? Well, we think we have seen the future — we witnessed the 3D tattoo, where implants are inserted into a tattoo to give an added boost to your ink, but now a German student has ‘invented’ a Braille tattoo; so the partially sighted will literally be able to read arms. Forget sandwich boards, soon people will be able to feel a tattoo for the way to the next golf sale. Eye tattoos have also come to our attention… Yeap, getting a tattoo on the eye is NOT for the faint hearted, judging by the noises made here in the office when pictures were shown, it is not for the Pretty Greener’s either!

So will brands capitalise on this? Would a company pay to have a logo etched onto a celebrity eye? Will Hello Kitty be implanted under the skins of Harajuku girls? Only time will tell, but for now, we are going to weigh up the pros and cons of that smiley and whether Strings will be getting a nose stud.

It’s Carnival, Must Be Time for A Red Bull Party

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Picture 7Things on the Culture team have been non stop the past few weeks with Red Bull, but we will take a few minutes to give a shout out to the record breaking Sound System Party and the return of Culture Clash at the Roundhouse.

First up we announced the line up for the near legendary Red Bull Music Academy Sound System Party at the Notting Hill Carnival. With a selection of names taking to the stage that look like a beat and bass lovers wet dream it is no surprise that tickets went in a record 49 SECONDS! Monday will find us under the Westway, throwing ourselves around with gay abandonment to the likes of Major Lazer, Rodigan, Drop The Lime and a very VERY special guest who is going to be announced on the day… We cannot wait, there is also a rumour that Pete will be donning a small sequined number to get into the true Carnival Spirit, but this has yet to be confirmed or denied…

On the 14th October the Red Bull Culture Clash is returning to the Roundhouse in Camden for the second time this year. We will see an epic battle for supremacy between four teams; headed up by Goldie, Skream & Benga, Channel One Soundsystem and the Soul Jazz Records Sound System, with the legend that is Don Letts hosting the proceedings. This looks to be like a huge event, but will Goldie be able to keep his crown as champion or will one of those young glory hungry upstarts clinch it — only the crowd can decide… Keep your eyes peeled for more info and tickets.

Right, we have to get back on limbering up for Monday…

Globe Trotters Wanted

Picture 6Greetings!

International globetrotting guide for PrettyGreen and Trident’s Perpetual Festival Experience, Katie Parsons,  started her worldwide adventures back in May, I am now is 14 festivals into her non-stop adventures, having clocked in passport stamps from Bulgaria, Turkey, Croatia, Barcelona, Ibiza and Majorca to name a few.

Each week having attended a different musical event, accompanied by a pair of winners (who grabbed flights/tickets through their promotional packs of Trident Gum). What could have turned into a potentially socially awkward experience has apparently been genuinely brilliant!

Each of the winners – ranging from couples to siblings and friends and neighbours – have been amazing, and have not only provided excellent company but also been very willing to aid and contribute to the seemingly endless stream of videos, photos and wordy content for her travel blog, new friends, met some great celebs and racked up a few more freckles too.

With Cape Town, Malawi, Australia and Thailand still on her list of places to go – the party is still very much rolling on. Check out all the  festival action at tridentperpetualfestival

Simon Says…

Friday, August 20th, 2010

The excitement in the office has been building steadily this week. After nearly 2 years of planning (and a lot of box humping) it’s the first of our Cadbury Spots v Stripes Big City Take Over’s.

Most of the PrettyGreen events team are decamping to Glasgow and there are some burning questions waiting to be answered.

What will Alex look like as a giant Morph man?

Can Leanne take a knock from our giant wrecking Eyeball?

Can we throw Sian down our massive Slide Dunk?

And how long will it take before Strings gets in the Cadbury Button’s Monkey suit?

Intrigued? Well come down and join in the game if you are in bonny Scotland. We’ll be battling Spots v Stripes in Georges Square and Pottersfield from 10am Saturday and Sunday. If not, catch us at one of other Big City Takeovers in Leeds (4th-5th September), London (11th-12th September) and Birmingham (18th-19th September).

Simon Cowell lookalike

We kicked off with a big game of Simon Says yesterday, our Games Professors have arrived and we have lots of big mechanical machines currently building and moving things.

It’s going to be BIG and a lot of fun.

Red Bull X-Fighters…a rather soggy weekend of Motocross

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Everyone here at Pretty Green knows that the Red Bull X-Fighters is the best thing since, well, the invention of the Motocross bike, but this year 30,000 people joined us to see what all the fuss was about.

Team PG headed to Battersea Power Station to walk through puddles and rub shoulders with celebs such as Amir Khan and Calum Best (who arrived in true Best style with a lovely lady on each arm). After some host and boxer arm wrestling, it was time to check out the show — truly draw dropping stuff with Levi Sherwood being crowned champion and a satisfied (if slightly soggy) crowd headed home.

We, however, hit the after party to celebrate the day in true Red Bull Style, as well as bidding a fond farewell to Lex (Good luck down under! You will be sorely missed). Five minutes in – Mr Judd is on the dance floor strutting his stuff with a tight fitted t-shirted friend… Mandy has disappeared to somewhere we can only imagine was the bar and Nick finally managed to get hold of some free drinks vouchers… All was right with the world.

Looking at the sleepy faces on Monday morning, its safe to say team Pretty Green had an awesome weekend working hard and playing even harder. The highlight for Alex and Laura was clearly the motorbike that featured in the media area that they just couldn’t resist testing out… They didn’t want to put any riders to shame with their skills, so it stayed un-started…IMG00246-20100814-1735

Morphmen can be very competitive!

Friday, August 13th, 2010

They say never work with children or animals, but herding 60 morphmen around London plus 2 Sugababes was a challenge that could well be added to that little adage. The problem was they all got really overexcited when we split them into their Spots and Stripes teams for the Cadbury photocall; when we said ‘look like you are pulling the rope’ in the tug-of-war picture, they actually wanted to play the game for real and it all got a bit competitive! I guess it just goes to show how the game is taking off – all people need is a bit of inspiration (or an all in one purple spotted morph suit!) and they quickly take up the mantle to start playing more. Even the Sugababes had more fun than they thought they would – both Jade and Heidi left at the end of the day saying they’d really enjoyed it and would try to come to our London event on the 11 and 12th September if they could and stock up on some chocolate obviously!. Another weekend, another festival

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Swimming poolWhile we were sitting at our desks googling how to do a ’sun dance’ (opposite to rain dance) and gearing up for the last few festivals of the summer, our resident festival expert Katie P is embarking on another weekend of camping, interviews, music and general mischief.

This weekend Katie dons her wellies and sunglasses for Standon Calling, treating lucky ticket winners to a weekend to remember. As well as sharing her knowledge on all things festival (like trying to touch as little as possible in the portaloos) Katie sends us picture updates of what shes been up to and todays picture just happens to be of a pool in the middle of a field in the sunshine at a festival so we thought we’d share it!

We know what your thinking, we’re contemplating not opening those picture emails anymore as well

Brucey

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Tayo and Claire headed to The Secret Garden Party last weekend. Returning a little worse for wear, but having had an amazing time they regaled us with stories of Karaoke competitions won, DJ sets dressed as elizabethan royalty and failed dance off attempts.

The true highlight of the weekend we have been told however was the Bruce Forsyth Robot Hybrid that was found dancing his way around the festival site. Check out his futuristic light entertainment moves…

Its official – La Maison Fontaine Absinthe is the best.

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Picture 8

Well, here at Pretty Green we always knew La Maison Fontaine was the best Absinthe ever, but now it is official — after being crowned Best in Class and awarded a Gold Medal for Absinthe!

This week the International Wine and Spirits Competition announced their 2010 results and La Maison Fontaine was awarded Gold in the Absinthe Category. The IWSC aims to promote the quality and excellence of the world’s best wines, spirits and liqueurs, they host an annual awards and all products are blind tasted by the crème of the Global bar industry.

The judges regarded La Maison Fontaine as ‘delightful and invigorating’, which is exactly what we think too… Though hours of gruelling cocktail making and tasting (life is so hard sometimes), we have discovered some of the best ways to drink the award winning drink… One of our favourites is the Chez Cherie:

Ingredients

• 35ml La Maison Fontaine Absinthe

• 25ml Aged Rum

• 10ml Hazelnut liqueur

• 4 dash Angostura bitters

Method

Stir with cubed ice in a boston tin, then strain into a small chilled coupe glass, garnished with 2 drunken cherries on a prism stick.

Thirsty yet? Head on over to www.fontaineabsinthe.com

Cheers! Now where did we put those glasses…
